La Cuchilla Community Update
May & June, 2021

La Cuchilla is a small village with a population of 500 people. The CarePoint operates out of the local public school and is led by the school staff, parents of the students, and the local community government. Most children don't finish school because they work with their parents during the harvest season to help support the family. The families lack resources to feed their children, resulting in malnourishment. The people in La Cuchilla are willing to work, and with the support of the school and local government there are opportunities for projects and programs to empower the community, improve education, and invest in the lives of the children.

Ms. Agapita is a widow woman who enjoys sharing good time with the children, teaching them the good consequences of follow their parents’ instructions. She is well known at the community for her great heart and good friendship. We want to highlight her life and honor her for being faithful to God and do the good to anyone at the community.

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. - Ephesians 6:1" Agapita

The firefighter department in Samayac have done an excellent job for the community. However, they constantly struggle with their finances. They work as volunteer and survive through donations and fundraising. Even with this struggle, they keep serving the community. During the pandemic, they were not afraid to go with anyone who ask for help. We had the opportunity to serve them and gave them food bags. We want to support their homes through something simple. Now, we have the blessing to count on them any time our children and families need them. We hope God protect them and provide for each home.
Nutrition:
In May and June, we had the opportunity to keep supporting the children´s nutrition by providing meals to the 204 children of the program. As well, we gave food bags to the 130 families who are linked to the CarePoint. This is a huge blessing to the families, mostly the ones who are still struggling with their finances at home. Thank God and the work of the team, we can serve more than 200 meals once a week. It is a blessing for the children.

Education:
The students are not attending school in person. However, we are in touch with the families and the teachers from the other schools following up on the children´s process.

Cultural Celebrations:

On May 10th we celebrated the moms in Guatemala, we shared a cupcake with each of the mothers of the CarePoint. We wanted to make them feel special and appreciated by us. We know they a key person in their homes and we bless them.

In June we celebrate Father´s Day, Teacher´s Day and Army Day. We had the opportunity to send a cupcake to each dad of the CarePoint. They said they didn´t expect the little present and said it was delicious, they sent greetings to you all!

Home Visits:
In June, we conducted 8 home visits. During the visits, the families opened their hearts and gave us the opportunity to pray for them to stay united as a family.

Discipleship:

We sent material to the children's homes according to their ages. They had the opportunity to learn about:

1. How God created the world in 7 days.
2. About Moises life.
3. How much they know about the Bible.
Genesis 1:1-32
Exodus 2: 1-10

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. " Ephesians 6:1-4

Prayer Requests:
  • We pray for the families who are directly affected by COVID. The cases in the areas around the community are increasing.
  • We are grateful with God for our friends in the US. Was good to have them here and share with the Pastors. We pray for each of the HopeChest Friends constantly
  • Please pray for struggling marriages to be restored.
  • We give thanks to God for the completion of the perimeter wall. He touched hearts of friends to resource and carry out the construction of the wall.

Writing to your HopeChest Friend is a great way to lay the groundwork for a strong and fruitful relationship that provides both of you with strength and encouragement.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions at CarePoints that have temporarily altered programming, you may notice a period of time when you do not receive a letter from your HopeChest Friend. Thank you for continuing to send encouragement to the child you support.
